Palestinian medical sources have reported that the healthcare sector in the Gaza Strip is experiencing a severe shortage of medical supplies and equipment necessary for eye surgeries. According to the sources, 1,500 Palestinians have lost their eyesight as a result of the genocide war, while another 4,000 are at risk of going blind.
The sources added that the ongoing genocide is causing an almost complete collapse of surgical services, particularly for conditions such as retinal diseases, diabetic retinopathy, and internal hemorrhaging.
They noted that the Eye Hospital in Gaza City currently possesses only three worn-out surgical scissors, which are being repeatedly used — significantly increasing the risks to patients' lives and preventing their treatment.
The sources further explained that many eye injuries caused by explosions require specific medical materials such as Healon and fine surgical threads, which are nearly depleted.
Medical sources warned that the Eye Hospital is on the verge of declaring its inability to provide any surgical services unless there is an immediate and urgent intervention by the relevant authorities and international organizations.
